Smith Haughey Welcomes Richard Mills to Private Client Services Team

We are pleased to welcome a new addition to our private client services group and our Ann Arbor officeRichard C. Mills. Rick joins Smith Haughey in the role of senior counsel.

Rick has practiced law for over 15 years and specializes in estate planning, trust and estate administration, and charitable giving.  

He actively participates in numerous legal and community organizations, including the American Bar Foundation, Jackson Area Estate Planning Council, Jackson Community Foundation, and the State Bar of Michigan’s Probate and Estate Planning Council. Rick helps draft Michigan’s trust laws and regularly shares his knowledge through speeches and publications. He enjoys engaging in sophisticated legal and tax analysis, but more importantly, he appreciates personally connecting with his clients and serving as a trusted family counselor.

Currently, Rick is writing the latest edition of “Charitable Gift Planning: A Practical Guide for the Estate Planner” and pursuing the chartered advisor in philanthropy (CAP) designation. Rick earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting and business from Aquinas College, then his master’s degree and Juris Doctor from The University of Detroit Mercy.
