Smith Haughey is saddened to share news of the death of Michael J. Roberts, a former Shareholder and Of Counsel attorney of the firm. Mike passed away on Sunday, December 6.
“We were shocked to learn of Mike’s passing and are deeply saddened by the news,” said Smith Haughey CEO Matt Wikander. “He will be missed by all at the firm and others throughout the legal community.”
Born in Detroit in 1943, Mike earned both his undergraduate and Juris Doctorate degrees from the University of Michigan. In addition, Mike served four years in the United States Air Force and the National Security Agency.
Mike joined Smith Haughey in 2003, where he practiced as a Shareholder before moving to an Of Counsel role, practicing primarily in the areas of construction law, architects and engineers liability, and product liability. During this time Mike represented design professionals, including architects, structural and civil engineers, environmental and geotechnical consultants, and landscape architects.
Outside of practicing law, Mike enjoyed many outdoor activities including tennis, skiing, fishing, gardening, and especially golf. He will be missed by his colleagues and numerous family members, including his wife, Linda; son James and his wife Christie; three grandchildren, Vivian, Adalyn, and Teddy; his two brothers, Jim and Patrick; and many nieces and nephews.
