Tax Law

Overview

Tax law is complex and ever changing. Our tax law attorneys help clients anticipate the tax consequences and maximize the tax benefits of any sort of transaction – from gifting property to a family member, to making a charitable contribution, to selling a business.

Our attorneys stay abreast of new developments to ensure clients benefit from the most current and informed application of the law. We also work closely with attorneys from other Smith Haughey practice groups to develop the best, most comprehensive legal strategies on such issues as estate planning, business formation, acquisitions and divestitures, and tax-exempt structuring.

Experience

We serve businesses large and small, individuals of great wealth and modest means, and tax-exempt organizations of all types. Our attorneys are called upon to analyze the tax implications of transactions, assist with tax planning, and appeal against adverse assessments. We are also experienced in representing “tax-controversy” clients before the Internal Revenue Service and the Michigan Tax Tribunal.
