Natalie Winquist is an associate in Smith Haughey’s Grand Rapids office. Her practice focuses on medical malpractice defense litigation. Natalie represents hospitals, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers throughout the state of Michigan at all stages of litigation.
Prior to joining Smith Haughey, Natalie worked as an attorney advisor with the Illinois Pollution Control Board. In her role as a Board attorney, Natalie gained experience adjudicating complex matters involving alleged violations of the Illinois Environmental Protection Act and helped to develop and implement environmental control standards for the state. While undoubtedly a different area of law, Natalie’s experience handling environmental matters allows her a unique ability to handle the complexities medical malpractice cases demand. Natalie is drawn to medical malpractice defense because she enjoys working with individuals that dedicate their lives to helping others.
Natalie earned her J.D. from Western Michigan Cooley (WMU) Law School, magna cum laude. During that time, she served as a law clerk for Hon. George J. Quist and as a prosecutorial intern in the Criminal Division of the Kent County Prosecutor’s Office. Natalie also served as the Managing Resource Editor for WMU Cooley’s Law Review, served as a teaching assistant for torts and Federal Civil Procedure, and is a recipient of WMU’s Leadership Achievement award.
In her spare time, Natalie enjoys spending time with her family and friends and, as a self-proclaimed foodie, is always on the hunt for the best food and quality coffee.
