Biography

Kelly Houk is a senior counsel attorney at Smith Haughey. She specializes in personal injury and contract matters. It is her privilege to defend surgery centers and doctors in medical malpractice actions. Her other clients manufacture pharmaceuticals, medical devices, automobiles, elevators, escalators, and furnaces. She is adept at defending a variety of products and premises in asbestos litigation as well as companies and employee-drivers in auto-negligence cases.

Kelly also has experience with insurance and commercial matters, including matters involving significant amounts of secured debt. She has tried bankruptcy, breach of contract, and trade secret misappropriation matters.

A graduate of the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law (UDM), Kelly earned her J.D., graduating magna cum laude in 2013. During law school, she excelled in legal writing, administrative law, and franchising law, served as a Title Editor for UDM’s Law Review, and was inducted into the Frank Murphy Honor Society for her top 10% class ranking. In 2019, she received UDM’s Rising Star Award. She also serves on the Board of Directors for Albion College’s Alumni Association.

Kelly lives in West Bloomfield with her partner, Vince Vitale, and daughter. They enjoy spending time on North Lake in Chelsea, growing pumpkins and visiting Albion in the fall.
