Allen serves as the firm’s Chief Operating Officer. In this position, he oversees finances, facilities, human resources, marketing, technology, and business planning for all four of the firm’s offices, and brings nearly 25 years of significant legal and business administration experience to Smith Haughey.
Prior to joining the firm, for eight years Allen served as the Administrator/Operations Officer of BakerHostetler LLP’s Columbus, Ohio office. In this role, Allen oversaw the business and strategic management of over 70 attorneys and a 45-person support staff. In addition to his time at BakerHostetler, Allen worked in a variety of roles with the Columbus Airport Authority, where he most recently served as Senior Counsel and Manager of Risk.
Allen attended Calvin University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in political science. From there, he went on to earn both a Master of Arts in administration and a Juris Doctorate from Ohio State University in Columbus, where he, his wife Emily and their four children have since lived.
Outside of work, Allen has a busy family life with his wife Emily and their four children. They especially enjoy traveling together. Allen also enjoys cooking for and hosting friends, triathlons, reading and DIY home improvement projects.
