Smith Haughey Rice & Roegge is pleased to announce that attorney Michael J. Bovill has joined the firm’s Grand Rapids office. Practicing in the firm’s litigation practice group, Mike focuses his practice on commercial litigation, professional liability defense, and insurance litigation.
Prior to joining Smith Haughey, Mike served in the Marines for nearly six years. He brings significant trial experience earned as a Special Victims Prosecutor with a focus on child sex crimes and sexual assault. During his time as a prosecutor the Marines nominated Mike to serve as a Special Assistant United States Attorney in the Southern District of California to prosecute civilian offenses on Department of Defense installations. As a result of his successful prosecution record, Mike was chosen to deploy as the legal counsel to a strategic task force assembled to advise and assist Iraqi forces in the prosecution of terrorists. While forward deployed he went on to serve as legal counsel to the Marines’ regional crisis response force and the headquarters for the International Coalition to Defeat ISIS. He has also represented servicemember clients and their families in various civil matters and settlement mediations.
Mike graduated from Loyola University Chicago, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science. He earned his Juris Doctorate from University of Illinois Chicago John Marshall Law School. Mike lives in Rockford, Mich. with his wife and daughters. When he is not practicing law, he enjoys golf, traveling in Northern Michigan, and spending time outdoors.
