Matthew Wiebe has been promoted to shareholder, effective January 1, 2025.
Matthew Wiebe | Shareholder
Matthew is a business and nonprofit attorney dedicated to supporting clients’ day-to-day corporate and transactional matters. He assists for-profit and nonprofit clients throughout the organizational lifecycle, from formation to significant transitions.
Jonathan Koch | Litigation Practice Group Chair
Jonathan has been named to lead Smith Haughey’s litigation practice group. He focuses his practice on civil appeals, professional liability defense, and high-stakes commercial litigation.
In addition to extensive experience briefing complex issues in Michigan’s trial courts, he has litigated more than one hundred appeals in the Michigan Court of Appeals, the Michigan Supreme Court, and the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.
2025 Board of Directors
Matthew Wikander has been re-elected for a third term to lead Smith Haughey as Chief Executive Officer. Additionally, Krista Jackson and Jason Sebolt have been elected to join the existing board. Both will serve a three-year term and join current board members – Nicholas Reister, Mark Gilchrist, Michael Miller, Brian Kilbane, and Matthew Wikander.

Krista is business law attorney, using her extensive experience in civil litigation and appellate matters, Krista understands how to balance aggressive strategies with favorable resolution opportunities, taking into account a client’s needs regarding timeliness and costs.
Jason Sebolt | Board of Directors & Medical Malpractice Practice Chair
Jason counsels hospitals and health care providers in the areas of medical malpractice defense, general liability, premises liability, and risk management. He is a shareholder and chairs the firm’s medical malpractice defense group in the Grand Rapids office and is past president of the Michigan Society of Healthcare Risk Management.
