Smith Haughey Rice & Roegge is pleased to announce the election of five new shareholders. These attorneys represent a variety of practice areas, to which they’ve made great impact.

Michael E. Doversberger, of the firm’s Holland office, practices in the areas of business, real estate, intellectual property, franchise, and employment law.
Mike began his legal practice in Mishawaka, Indiana and Dowagiac, Michigan, before joining Smith Haughey. He has represented both individuals and publicly traded corporations, has drafted and negotiated numerous types of agreements, and has acted as counsel to employers on human resource needs and strategies. He also has experience litigating commercial disputes, contracts, and employment claims.
Prior to commencing his law practice, Mike attended the University of Notre Dame, majoring in business administration, with a minor in international peace studies. Mike then attended the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law and was an editor on the International & Comparative Law Review.
Krista A. Jackson is a member of the firm’s litigation practice group, representing individuals and businesses in a wide array of matters, including environmental, construction, employment, agribusiness, and commercial litigation.
Krista graduated from Calvin College and the University of Virginia School of Law. She is very active in the community and with several philanthropic organizations, and currently sits on the board of Camp Henry.
Ashley C. Quackenbush is an attorney in Smith Haughey’s Grand Rapids office, focusing on medical malpractice defense litigation. Ashley represents hospitals, nurses and other healthcare providers throughout the state in all stages of litigation.
Ashley has substantial experience as a medical malpractice defense attorney, having spearheaded litigation strategies for high-exposure cases and obtaining dismissal of multiple claims. In addition, Ashley has spoken at numerous medical legal seminars regarding topics in medical malpractice litigation and hospital risk management.
Ashley earned her J.D. from Wayne State University Law School, where she founded the Health Law Association and served as a law clerk for the University of Michigan Health System Legal Office. Ashley earned her B.A. in Psychology with a Minor in Crime and Justice from the University of Michigan.
Rachael M. Roseman is a litigator in Smith Haughey’s Grand Rapids office, representing clients throughout the state in a variety of commercial, professional liability, and probate matters. She has successfully represented clients both big and small, specializing in complex legal and factual disputes. Rachael also has successfully represented clients through all types of probate matters, including guardianships, conservatorships, and probate and trust litigation.
Rachael has served as a committee member for the 21st Century Practice Task Force with the State Bar of Michigan. She is currently a member of the Executive Leadership Team for the March of Dimes Signature Chef’s Auction. Rachael is also a contributor in the ICLE publications Michigan Probate Litigation: A Guide to Contested Matters and Michigan Causes of Action Formbook.
Prior to her time at Smith Haughey, Rachael graduated from Grand Valley State University with a B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies and went on to earn her J.D., summa cum laude, from the Michigan State University College of Law. While in law school, Rachael was the Editor-in-Chief of the Michigan State Law Review. She also served as a legal intern for the Michigan Department of Human Services and worked as a law clerk in the 17th Circuit Court for Kent County.
Ryne J. Takacs practices medical malpractice defense and long-term care/nursing home defense at the firm’s Grand Rapids office. Prior to joining Smith Haughey, Ryne practiced extensively throughout Illinois, serving as counsel in matters involving medical malpractice and long-term care/nursing home defense. Ryne has successfully defended physicians, hospitals, nurses, nursing home facilities, long-term care facilities, adult foster homes, chiropractors, and other health care professionals, obtaining dismissal and summary judgment in a variety of matters before both the state and federal courts.
In addition to his medical malpractice and long-term care/nursing home defense experience, Ryne litigates and counsels clients in the areas of business, commercial, civil and employment law. Ryne graduated from the University of Iowa with an undergraduate degree in Business Studies and received his J.D. from Western Michigan Thomas M. Cooley Law School, with an emphasis in litigation.
