Chris is an attorney in the firm’s Grand Rapids office who brings a broad depth of experience across a spectrum of practice areas.
Due to his diverse experience, Chris is member of and assists multiple practice groups. As a member of the firm’s Litigation practice group, Chris represents and defends an array of individuals and organizations in the resolution of various disputes. In the area of medical malpractice defense, he assists his clients by analyzing complicated medical causation issues, addressing the admissibility of expert evidence, preparing motions for summary disposition, and preparing cases for trial or effective settlement negotiations. Chris is also part of the firm’s Business and Real Estate practice group, where he practices in the areas of business transactions, mergers and acquisitions, and real estate law.
Prior to moving to West Michigan, Chris worked for a boutique litigation firm in San Francisco, specializing in commercial and consumer finance litigation. In addition to his litigation services, Chris provided his clients with regulatory and compliance advice on issues arising under federal and state consumer protection statutes. Chris also defended his clients in class actions and gained valuable experience dealing with complex litigation issues and the requirements under Rule 23 of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure.
In addition, Chris previously worked for a successful and respected personal injury firm in Houston, Texas. In Texas, Chris managed a docket of mass tort cases filed in venues across the country, including a large product liability action that was coordinated in Southern California. In addition to his mass tort experience, Chris also represented clients in variety of personal injury cases, including auto and trucking accidents, medical and nursing home malpractice, and Jones Act cases involving men and women injured while working on offshore vessels. Chris has also worked for two of the top personal injury firms in the state of California. His professional personality, coupled with his aggressive litigation style, helped him obtain millions of dollars in verdicts and settlements for his clients.
Chris’ experience working on both the plaintiff and defense side of litigation gives him a unique perspective when it comes to case evaluation and developing case strategy. He is often consulted by other attorneys at the firm for his opinion on litigation analysis and case planning, and clients routinely recognize his positive contributions.
Chris is licensed in Michigan, California and Texas, as well as multiple Federal District Courts across the Country.
Chris is passionate about giving back to the West Michigan community. He is a volunteer for Kent County CASA, a non-profit organization that advocates for and mentors neglected children as they make their way through the family court system. Chris is a Board Member for the Friends of Grand Rapids Parks, a community-driven non-profit with a mission to protect, enhance, and expand parks and public spaces in Grand Rapids. He also participates in the Western District of Michigan’s Pro Bono case assignment panel.
In his free time, Chris enjoys spending time with his wife, Stacy, and their two beautiful children. Chris is an avid sports fan, loves playing basketball and golf, and enjoys exploring all that West Michigan has to offer.
